Missy

sdfsdfsd

Missy is a 2-3 year old spayed brown tabby female kitty who was adopted from the NHS and brought back because her owner developed allergies to her. Missy is a little grouchy when it comes to other cats and dogs, but she could probably be fine in a home with another VERY laidback cat. She does not seem to mind being held and is very affectionate when she wants to be. Missy has been back at the NHS since March 25th, 2008.

KODA

sdfKoda is a very large one year old neutered male kitty whocame in with a few siblings who have all been adopted. Koda has unfortunately grown up at the NHS. He likes other cats and would probably like dogs too given his confidence and curiosity. He likes to prove his manlyness from time to time by playing aggressively, with both cats and people - yes, that means you can expect him to bite when he plays, and he does not bite lightly! He is not trying to be mean - he's just not sure of peoples' boundaries. Koda was adopted and returned due to this, as well as inappropriate urination, which was probably due to stress. He was not given a very long time to adjust, so we suspect he could adjust given time, and perhaps confined to a smaller space at first with his litter box close by.

FRISKA

sdf

Friska is a very unique looking cat, with an interesting face and coat colour/texture. Friska is very energetic and loves to play. We believe her to be about a year old. Friska came into the shelter abandoned with 5 kittens. We feel that Fiska's playful attitude would go well with another cat that age. She tends to annoy the quieter cats with her insistent playing.

BRUCE

Bruce was abandoned on the side of the road. He is a very quiet cat and seems slightly overwhelmed by the business of the shelter. Bruce was adopted and brought back because he was not getting along with the other cat in the home or the child. Bruce will be happiest in a quiet home with no other cats or children, as he seems a little traumatized by his life's recent events.

MUFFIN

Always on the go? We have the cat for you! Muffin is a spayed female kitty who was found abandoned with her kittens and brought to the NHS. She can be sweet to the right person and would prefer a quiet home with no other pets or children. Muffin would fit into the lifestyle of someone who is always on the go as all Muffin really wants is a home to call her own with very few people in it (she may even prefer no people but realizes that she needs 1 for her basic requirements to be met). The staff feel that Muffin will eventually come around in her new home; not as an overly affectionate cat, but as a cat who will come to her new person when she pleases. Muffin has been at the NHS since August 2009.

SIMBA

sdf

Simba is a 6 month old, male cat. He was brought into the NHS with his siblings and mom when he was only a kitten when all of them were thrown out a moving vehicle. Simba can be a bit shy around new people but does love to be petted. He would prefer to keep all four feet on the ground, so he would do best in a home with older children. He also loves the company of other cats but is timid of dogs at the present time. Simba has been at the NHS since August 2009.

talia

LITTLE SOCKS AND TALIA sdf

Little Socks is a young male kitty who came to the NHS along with many other cats, because their owner could not properly care for them. He’s still adjusting to shelter life and as a result is timid. Little Socks is less timid when he's out of his cage - he will ignore people walking by if he has a catnip toy!! Little Socks has been at the NHS since August 2009.

Talia, though a bit shy, will be an excellent window decoration as she enjoys lying in the sun for hours on end. We were lucky enough to have Talia as a foster mom for 4 orphaned kittens as well as the three she already had. She is very accepting of other animals and happily plays with kittens and some adults, but would prefer a quiet home without young children. Talia has been at the NHS since April 2009.

A staff member recently decided to put these two scaredycats together and they seem to have formed a decent friendship through being cagemates! They would love to go to a home together as a pair of book-ends.

JAX - ADOPTED!

Jax is a 10 month old male kitty with medium-long hair and a massive tail that may signify some Norwegian Forest Cat or Maine Coon in his bloodline. Jax was found abandoned in a building with three other kittens when he was only 6 weeks old and brought to the NHS.Jax is usually good with other cats however he has recently shown us that he really, really needs to be neutered! He should be okay with older children, but has not yet been tested with dogs. Jax has been at the NHS since June 2009.

NEWTON - ADOPTED!

Newton is an 8 month old male short haired kitty who came to the NHS with his mom (Pretty Girl) and 2 siblings when his owner was evicted. Newton is an affectionate kitty who likes to be held and petted. He would be okay with other cats and children. When introduced to a dog, he did arch his back, but also ignored the dog when he was being petted so he may adjust to a dog. Newton has full mitten paws due to his 3 extra toes on each front foot. ADORABLE. Newton has been at the NHS since September 2009.

TIGER - ADOPTED!

Tiger was in foster care with an NHS staff member for most of his life, but is now back at the NHS and ready for his new home! He is extremely affectionate and good with other cats, dogs, and kids! Tiger would make a fabulous addition to pretty much any home and would love to be adopted before he's full grown. Tiger is 6 months old now. Please call or visit the shelter to see this lovely boy.

FRED - ADOPTED!, FERGIE, FOLLY - ADOPTED! and FREEBIE

Fred, Fergie, Folly, and Freebie (pictured left) came to the NHS from a barn after being abandoned. Because they had been born in a barn, they were somewhat feral when they arrived however all but Freebie have come around famously. Even Freebie gets better everyday and will let anyone pet her but is still a bit timid of being held. The other three are so affectionate and loved to be picked up and held that you would never know that they were ever considered to be feral kittens! They would most likely be fine in a home with other cats, may be best with older children and might adjust to living with a laid-back dog. They currently reside in a large cage in the front office so are very used to seeing new people and occasionally the odd dog that comes through the door. These kittens have been at the NHS since October 2009.

CODY

Cody is a 12-14 week old shorthair male kitten with HUGE ROUND EYES. A man found Cody and his sibling when they were very young and needed bottle feeding. The man agreed to foster them for the NHS, and was able to find a home for one of the kittens. Cody is now at the NHS and is not happy about being in a cage! He is sometimes quite vocal and is driving the special events coordinator crazy with his vocalness (Cody's cage is right outside the door of her office!) When picked up, Cody instantly calms down and begins to purr. The webmaster is in love with this kitten, just for the record, and needs someone to give him a home immediately before she takes him home and literally gets kicked out of her house. (Please and thank you.)

LEO - ADOPTION PENDING!

Leo is a Friskateer, being one of Friska’s three kittens, and has been at the shelter his entire life (That's almosta year!) Unfortunately when Leo came to the NHS he fell ill and was in isolation for several months. Now Leo is in good health and in desperate need of a home. Leo is shy for the first 30 seconds of meeting someone new, and cautious around other cats and dogs, but will show his true affectionate colours when adjusted. Leo likes to be held and is most comfortable hanging over a shoulder. Leo will love a home with a lot of people to interact with so he can stop being shy! Leo has been at the NHS since April of 2009.

CHIP - ADOPTION PENDING!

Chip is an EXTREMELY active 7-8 month old male kitty, who will obsessively play by himself or spend his time harrassing others to play with him. He loves to hug and kiss, and will trip you willingly if you try to walk away without putting food down for him. Chip is a really fun cat and will be constant entertainment and companionship for any adopter. Chip gets along very well with Perry and they like to chase each other around and around and around in our garage.

PERRY sdf(females)

Perry is a 10 month old male kitty who was abandoned here at the shelter with Friska, her kittens, and Sammie. Perry is a very friendly cat and enjoys hugging and lightly touching your face with his paws. He will, given the chance, play with toys and work himself up to the point he forgets there is a toy and just starts racing around chasing nothing. He very much enjoys the company of Chip, but can be aggressive with other unneutered male cats.

SMOKEY

Smokey is a 6 year old spayed and declawed female kitty who was surrendered to the NHS because the elderly owner was no longer capable of caring for her. Smokey is a nice cat who is fitting in well with shelter life despite her age. She was only used to an older person so may be best suited to a home with children 12 years and up. She may also be best as the only pet in the home given her age and the fact that she did not live with other pets in her previous home. Smokey has been at the NHS since February 2010.

GEORGE

George is a 1.5 year old male kitty who was surrendered to the NHS because his owner could not care for him properly. He likes to be petted and doesn’t mind being picked up for short periods. He is still a bit timid and is slowly adjusting to shelter life. At the present time, George would be best with older children in the home, no dogs and possibly with other laid-back cats. George has been at the NHS since February 1, 2010.

KITTY - ADOPTED!

Kitty is a female kitty around a year old who was surrendered by her owner because she had too many kitties to care for. Kitty is a very affectionate cat who loves to be picked up and petted. She is currently sharing her cage with another cat, Christy, and they get along well with one another. Kitty should be fine in a home with children, other cats and may adjust to a dog given her nature. Kitty has been at the NHS since November 2009.

MILLIE AND KIRSTY (Basketcats)

Kirsty (black medium-hair) and Millie (black&white short-hair) are about 1 year old, and came to the NHS through an animal cruelty investigation where the owner was not taking proper care of them. Kirsty’s back end was nearly bald when she arrived due to a flea bite allergy that was easily fixed with flea treatment. Despite her ordeal she is an extremely affectionate cat who loves to be petted and picked up. When let out of her cage she runs up and down the length of the cat room and virtually bounces off the walls. She also likes rolling around on the floor and playing with dangly toys. She loves a scratching post to sharpen her nails, and would like one in her new home. She would be great with young children, other cats and maybe a dog as there was one in her previous home! Millie is more of a quiet cat, who does like to be petted and picked up, but would be much happier in a home with older children as she seems to get startled by loud noises. When Millie is out if her cage, she takes things slow and can be seen sniffing all over the cat room. Millie would be best in a home with older children as mentioned, with older cats and with laid back dogs. Both cats have been at the NHS since Nov. 20, 2009.

FINNEGAN - ADOPTION PENDING!

Finnegan is a 1 year old male kitty who came to the NHS during an animal cruelty investigation in which the owner was not taking proper care of his pets. He is a very friendly cat who can also be quite affectionate. He loves to have the back of his neck scratched and loves to be picked up and petted. When out of his cage he goes immediately to the scratching post. He seems to be fine with other cats, so he should be okay with them in his new home as well as with children, but he hasn’t yet been tested with dogs. Finnegan has been at the NHS since November 20, 2009.

BUDDY

Buddy is an 8 month old male short-haired kitty who was surrendered to the NHS because his owner had too many cats to care for (he came from the same home as Kitty). When Buddy is let out of his cage, he immediately bee-lines it for the scratching post jumps up inside the cat house. He then jumps out of the cat house and then decides that he wants to meet all of the cats in the bottom row of cages by going nose to nose with them as if to say "Hi!" "Hi!" "Hi!" "Hi!"

He does like to be petted and also likes to be picked up for short periods, and likes using the scratching post to stretch his back and sharpen his nails. Buddy should be okay in a home with other cats and with older children, but it is unknown if he would adjust to a dog at the present time. Buddy has been at the NHS since November 2009.

ARIEL

Ariel is a short-haired female kitty and is about a year old. She came to the NHS through an animal cruelty investigation wherein the owner was not taking proper care of his pets. She LOVES to be picked up and petted and will even nuzzle into the neck of whoever picked her up! She also likes to play with toys that have the long string and the ball on then end. When introduced to other cats through their cage doors, she reacted very favourably. Ariel would be fine in a home with children and other cats and simply did not care when introduced to a dog who is respectful of kitties. Ariel has been at the NHS since November 20, 2009.
