Mary

Mary has been here too many times before! Originally brought to us from Ohio to avoid being euthanized, Mary was adopted out twice to unsuitable homes, and, unfortunately Mary's most recent owner could no longer care for her, so she was brought back again!! We now know that Mary is best in a home with no other pets and no small children. Mary deserves a home! She is about 3-4 years old and very well behaved and sweet.

Sandy

Sandy has been sponsored by Cathy and Ken Meehan

Smudgie came in with her sister Sandy from a home where they could no longer be looked after. They are very sweet shepherd/pitbull cross girls about 6-7 years old and both spayed. They love to give kisses and get petted! It is unknown how they are with other dogs and cats. Smudgie and Sandy are very well behaved and quiet. They know their basic commands plus a few tricks (how many, though, we're not sure!) and while they do jump up sometimes in excitement, they will get down when you tell them to. Smudge and Sandy really love playing together out in the shelter's front pen. Once they get going, they're VERY fast and fun to watch! Inside, they're mature. Outside, you'd never know they're over the age of 2!

Buddy

Buddy has been sponsored by R. Dalla Rosa

Buddy is a sweet male doberman mix. His owner was unable to care for him financially and brought Buddy in to be surrendered. Buddy is about 1.5 years old and still acts like a puppy. He does know his basic commands though and will settle down after his initial excited behaviour.

Oliver

Oliver is a 10 year old neutered male beagle. He is very playful for his age, and enjoys outdoor adventures playing with toys or going on walks. After a long day of playing Oliver will hit the sack around 9:00pm and snore until he hears his owner get up in the morning. Oliver is good left alone and will hug you (or try to) on your return. Unfortunately Oliver was originally surrendered when his owner died. Then he was brought back from a foster home when he was showing signs of aggression towards men, and cats. Oliver would be best in a one person home with no other pets. We will accept appropriate foster applications on him as well. Oliver has been at the NHS since March 2009.

Nikki

Nikki is a spayed female Border Collie mix about 6 years old. Nikki had a great family life and enjoyed the outdoors all day with the comforts of home at night. Unfortunately due to health concerns in the family Nikki had to be surrendered. Nikki is excellent at fetching and will do this for hours if you let her. Nikki is shy at first and needs to be approached slowly. Nikki has been in a home with children however her new home may be best without small kids. Nikki gets along ok with other dogs but will require an adjustment period with them. When approached by a new person to quickly Nikki has been known to nip at them in fear. Once she gets to know a person though, she is very friendly. At this time we are not sure how Nikki is with cats. Nikki has been at the NHS since April 2009.

BUTCH

Butch was brought in as a 6 week old puppy and adopted out. He was recently brought back at 4 1/2 months old because he seems to have aggression issues with food and perhaps small children as well. As a result,

- Butch may NOT go to a home with small children or babies

- Butch needs training for his food aggression which will be provided free upon request by Ryan Roseborough at Ryestone K-9 Dog Training.

That being said, Butch is a sweet, happy, smart puppy generally and has been assessed by a trainer and deemed fairly easily 'rehabilitatable!'
