The Northumberland Society’s Thrift Shop

Formerly called “The Clothes Horse”, a name still used by many, the NHS Thrift Shop has been located in several places in the downtown area. We now have a permanent store at 46 Covert Street, Cobourg. The store is run by an all volunteer staff and is open from 10 am. to 4 pm. Monday through Saturday. Donations are most welcome of good quality, clean clothes, linens, glass and china ware, books, sports gear, jewellery, toys and ornaments. We also appreciate small pieces of furniture – i.e. coffee tables, small chests, chairs etc., etc.

We are not able to take computers, televisions, baby furniture, but small appliances are alright. It is a good idea to call the store if you have something to donate and are not sure if we can take it.

Donations can be accepted at the store - after hours at the rear of building. The thrift shop is a valuable asset to the shelter and is, in fact, our biggest money maker. All proceeds go to the shelter. We are always looking for volunteers - each shift is 3 hours long and it is a very worthy cause.
